Las casas del Ferrocarril

For the Asko Schönberg Ensemble
ca. 8'

This piece was written throughout my studies in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam specially for the ASKO Ensemble. It premiered in April 2008 at the Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ, Amsterdam.

Las casas del ferrocarril was an investigation of opposites. Extremes in register: high and low in dynamics: loud and soft in texture: dense, subtle, rough, disperse, silence.

The piece was inspired from a rough neighbourhood in Bogotá called Las casas del ferrocarril (the houses from the railways) also known as “El cinturon de pobreza” (poverty belt) I was chocked by the extremes of hierarchies in societies. As a result, I was looking for beauty in extremes and diversity in timbre, was in search of unifications.
